Mohamed Siyad Mohamed - Managing Director
Mohamed Siyad Mohamed is the Managing Director of Birimo Consultancy, providing strategic leadership and direction across all consultancy operations. With extensive experience in project management, organizational development, and strategic planning, he ensures the company delivers innovative, sustainable, and community-focused solutions. Mohamed is dedicated to fostering excellence, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and strengthening partnerships that drive measurable impact across development and humanitarian sectors.
Mohamud Hassan Ali – Fisheries Expert
Mohamud Hassan Ali is a seasoned fisheries and coastal resource management specialist with over two decades of progressive experience across Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and international platforms. His professional background encompasses artisanal fisheries development, marine resource governance, stakeholder mapping, and the design and implementation of sustainable livelihood programs.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ali has collaborated with leading institutions including IGAD, Mercy Corps, COOPI/UNHCR, NRC, AU-IBAR, and the Wildlife Conservation Society. He has led groundbreaking research on marine megafauna with the University of St Andrews, conducted transboundary fisheries assessments, and facilitated extensive capacity-building initiatives for fisherfolk, cooperatives, and returnees.
He has represented Somalia in numerous high-level forums such as WIOMSA symposia, UNEP Shark and Rays conservation meetings, FAO small-scale fisheries consultations, and Blue Economy conferences. His exposure to fisheries governance across Africa, Asia, and Europe, combined with academic grounding in Fisheries and Coastal Zone Management, positions him as a thought leader in sustainable marine resource management.
Renowned for his analytical expertise, training acumen, and policy advisory experience, Mohamud brings a balanced approach that integrates scientific research, community engagement, and strategic development to foster resilient, inclusive, and environmentally sound fisheries systems.
Eynash Muktar Ellow - Livelihood and Market Specialist
Eynash Muktar Ellow is a seasoned Livelihood and Market Specialist with extensive experience in value chain development, food security, and community resilience programming. Over the past seven years, he has worked with international and local organizations to design, implement, and evaluate projects that enhance sustainable livelihoods and market access for vulnerable populations across Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
He holds a Master’s degree in Rural Development and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from Kenya Methodist University. Eynash’s professional expertise spans value chain analysis, data-driven market assessments, and the development of inclusive livelihood strategies that promote economic empowerment and social stability. His hands-on experience in humanitarian and development contexts has equipped him with a deep understanding of community dynamics, capacity building, and evidence-based program design.
Recognized for his analytical acumen and leadership, Eynash is committed to advancing sustainable development by fostering partnerships, improving productivity systems, and promoting market linkages that drive lasting economic transformation.
Nasro Abdikadir Abdirahman - Gender Specialist
Nasro Abdikadir Abdirahman is an accomplished Gender Specialist and legal professional with extensive experience in humanitarian and development programs across Somalia. With a strong background in law, gender advocacy, and social inclusion, she has spent over six years advancing women’s and children’s rights through legal aid, policy reform, and community empowerment initiatives.
Nasro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia and Law from Puntland State University and an LLM from Accord University. She has worked with various organizations, including national and international NGOs, providing technical leadership on gender analysis, safeguarding, and protection frameworks. Her work focuses on integrating gender-responsive approaches into program design and implementation, strengthening community participation, and promoting equitable access to justice and opportunities.
A confident public speaker and human rights advocate, Nasro combines legal expertise with a deep commitment to social transformation. Her professionalism, strategic insight, and dedication to gender equity continue to make a meaningful impact within Somalia’s development and humanitarian landscape.
Dr. Calvince Ouko Othoo – Climate Change & Environmental Resilience Specialist
Dr. Calvince Ouko Othoo is an accomplished environmental and climate change scientist with over a decade of multidisciplinary experience spanning academia, government institutions, international organizations, and community-based development initiatives. His expertise bridges climate risk assessment, adaptation planning, environmental modelling, GIS and spatial analysis, and sustainability-focused research. His work is deeply rooted in participatory community resilience approaches, ensuring that climate solutions are inclusive, evidence-based, and contextually relevant.
Dr. Othoo holds a PhD in Climate Change and Adaptation (2021) and an MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Analysis, reinforcing his strong scientific grounding in climate extremes, infrastructure vulnerability, soil analysis, and environmental systems. Over the years, he has contributed to high-impact research programs aligned with Africa’s Vision 2063, supported flagship resilience projects, and collaborated with leading African and global institutions.
His international engagements include prestigious research fellowships and academic exchanges such as the One Planet Fellowship in Europe (2023/2024) and the SMUS Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Berlin (2025). Through these programs, he has advanced research on climate resilience, soil erosion modelling, water and sanitation systems, and urban environmental risks.
Dr. Othoo has served as a Lead Researcher, Climate Expert, and Adaptation Specialist in numerous major projects across Kenya and the wider Horn of Africa. His work includes climate and disaster risk assessments for communities in arid and semi-arid regions, biodiversity and mangrove ecosystem assessments, development of Urban Resilience Strategies for five major Kenyan cities, and technical contributions to Kenya’s Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LTS) under the Paris Agreement.
He has also worked extensively in capacity building—training practitioners from NGOs, academia, and government institutions on climate adaptation, scenario development, GIS, and community-based resilience methodologies. His contributions to scientific research include multiple peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, policy briefs, and conference presentations in Africa, Europe, and North America.
Across all his engagements, Dr. Othoo is recognized for his analytical depth, collaborative approach, and commitment to empowering communities and institutions to prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change. His career is distinguished by several awards, including the Commonwealth Scholarship, One Planet Fellowship, and top academic honors from the University of Nairobi.
